Introduction

Mechanical keyboards are a well known premium product in the peripherals market as they normally feature greater performance, endurance and a better build quality over their rubber-domed cousins. They are popular with most of the pro gamers and typing enthusiasts, with many keyboard related forums all over the internet (Deskthority, Geekhack etc.). Typically mechanical keyboards demand a higher price tag over the other varieties of switches (discounting Razer’s Blade and Mad Catz’ STRIKE 7 keyboard), as they feature the core component – Cherry MX switches. With four main flavours, all offering a different experience, it’s not a surprise that more and more companies are jumping on-board the mechanical bandwagon.

Ducky are a well known mechanical keyboard brand who are notorious for their superior build quality and fancy lighting effects. Today, Ducky UK have provided us with the latest mech keyboard  from their Shine product line – the Shine 3 TKL (DK9087), with orange backlighting and Cherry MX brown switches. This Ten KeyLess (TKL) keyboard is a 80% version of the Shine 3 DK9008, which means there is no num pad. The keyboard still has the majority of the features of the full size board, just in a much more compact form. In the past we’ve had a look at the Shine 2, so it will be interesting to see how it compares. The full specifications of the keyboards are:

  • Cherry MX Switchs.
  • Full LED backlight
  • 7 level of brightness
  • 2 User customisable back light profiles
  • Backlight Modes: Breathing, Wave Marquee. Snake Marquee, Reactive, Ripple
  • Dual layer PCB for extra durability

  • Dual Layer PCB.
  • UV coated Laser printed ABS Keycaps.
  • N-Key Rollover via USB.

As usual, let’s take a look at the keyboard.
