MSI’s gaming notebooks for the 2014 launch were all based on Nvidia GTX 8xx GPUs with a mix of Kepler and the newer Maxwell GPUs in there. Maxwell currently occupies the GTX 860M downwards with Kepler occupying the GTX 880M and 870M for now.

What was probably the most eye-opening, if not exciting, information to come from MSI is that during the second-half the year they’re looking to incorporate a ‘3K’ (2880*1620 most likely) screen option into their 15.6″ models. We’re assuming there is no comment on the 17″ models due to manufacturing issues. When asked about Nvidia’s G-Sync, and as a basis of that, 120Hz+, we were told it’s certainly under consideration but again, manufacturing problems are the biggest hindrance at the minute.

A by-product of the move towards higher-end displays is that all of MSI’s line-up including the lower sized screen models will now come with an IPS screen which MSI were very keen to stress.

In addition to the display and GPU upgrades, all MSI’s notebooks will of course feature the KillerNIC onboard to get help gamers get the edge where possible, ‘Super RAID 2’ offering up to 2 HDDs in some systems depending on the combination of drives used and last but not least, audio provided by Dynaudio is to ensure that if you do choose to use the integrated speakers you’re not going to be left flat by an OEM cut and paste job.
