AMD has announced three new 7000 series CPUs with their 3D V-Cache technology. Building upon the day 1 launch of 7000-series CPUs they’ve announced the 7950X3D, 7900X3D, and 7800X3D CPUs.

Adding an additional 64MB Level 3 cache using AMD’s 3D V-Cache stacking technology, a 3D stacking technology developed in partnership with TSMC.
They also have higher boost core frequencies than previous X3D chips, with the Ryzen 9 7950X3D boosting to 5.7GHz, matching the original 7950X’s boost frequency.
All three Zen4 bases X3D SKUs also have a 120w TDP.

7950X3D – AMD’s new 16-core flagship!

With 16-cores and 32-threads, 128MB of L3 cache, and a boost frequency of 5.7GHz. Curiously with the 7950X’s TDP being 170w and the 7950X3D being 120w, where does AMD save 50w? By dropping the base frequency to 4.2GHz.

7900X3D – 12-core powerhouse!

With 12-cores and 24-threads, 128MB of L3 cache, and a boost frequency of 5.6GHz.
Mirroring the 7950X3D, the 7900X3D also has a lower 120w TDP with a slightly higher 4.4GHz base frequency.

7800X3D – a better 5800X3D!

With 8-cores and 16-threads, 96MB of L3 cache, and a boost frequency of 5.0GHz, once again the 7800X3D comes with a 120w TDP. Which is higher than the 5800X3D is directly compared with. The base frequency is currently unknown.

Offering the updated Zen4 core technology, directly comparing the 7800X3D and 5800X3D delivers around 20-30% more performance across the titles seen below.

So, can these be overclocked?

There is still no news on whether the 7000 series X3D CPUs are going to have an unlocked multiplier for overclocking or, like, the 5800X3D is limited to boost frequencies only. We will update you when AMD release that information.


No cost information has been given at this time. But we can hazard a guess based on the around £100 premium the 5800X3D had over the 5800X at launch that around the same premium could be added to the current 7950X, 7900X, and 7800X CPU pricing.
