Asus have teamed of with Kingston’s HyperX division to bring us the worlds first Asus SSD. At the moment we are hearing there will be 3 different variants. There is said to be two different 2.5″ versions, 1 which house 2x mSATA SSDs and the other will house two m.2 SSDs. There is also going to be a 3.5″ version which will house two 2.5 SATA Hard Drives or SSDs. These drives will all come with an internal RAID controller and be set up in RAID 0, they will connect via SATA Express on compatible motherboards.

The Asus Hyper Express is still in early stages so things may change a bit but the overall design and functionality should be close to what is mentioned.

The front of the drive should definitely have the Asus and HYPER EXPRESS branding on it.

This is the back of the drive and as you can see it is still a concept model.

Rear

As said it will feature SATA Express connectivity.

The drives will also come bundled with a SATA Express Cable.

ASUS is expecting these drives to hit sequential read and write speeds of 700+ MB/s. The speeds shown below are results from the Hyper Express when paired with two Sandisk X110 mSATA SSDs.

It is also said that ASUS have discovered and implemented a new technology they feel is very important if you want your SATA Express devices to perform at their best. They have named the technology “the Separate Reference Clock with Independent Spread Spectrum Clocking Architecture, or SRIS for short”. This technology is said to help make sure all devices are recognized and operate with optimal performance.

One thing can definitely be said about all the above information, ASUS are continuing to prove why they are a world renowned innovator. These new drives are going to offer ends users amazing performance in a small and very aesthetically pleasing package. We can all but guarantee that we will have to pay a premium for these on release but remember, you get what you pay for. I for one can not wait to get my hands on one and look forward to more info and benchmarks in the future.
