After the release of their PC edition of the new 3DMark, Futuremark has launched the Android version, designed for benchmarking over 1,000 different Android smartphones and tablets. The Android edition of 3DMark has two different benchmarks which are both based on OpenGL ES 2.0; called Ice Storm and Ice Storm Extreme.

This edition has been developed in co-operation with Imagination Technologies, Intel, Broadcom, Nvidia, Qualcomm and other companies. “What’s more, 3DMark scores can be compared across platforms. You can use 3DMark to test the performance of devices running Android, iOS, Windows and Windows RT, and understand how new devices compare with the alternatives.“

Futuremark say the Ice Storm benchmark includes two graphics tests checking both the CPU and GPU performance. The Ice Storm extreme benchmark raises the rendering resolution to 1080p, uses higher quality textures and higher-post processing effects.

Currently 3DMark is only available on Windows and Android however it is coming soon to Windows RT and Apple iOS.
