Conclusion

If you peel back the layer of 2016 paint you’ll find the classic Master of Orion underneath. The aliens, tech, planets, even the cutscenes are updated clones of the original. If you choose to fight your own battles then it’s taken a step back with the introduction of real-time combat.

There are moments of fun, but they are buried underneath a 20 year old game formula whose only gameplay changes seem half implemented. It’s a simple introduction to 4X as a genre, and enjoyable for a few playthroughs. Unfortunately, it’s not worth the price at time of review, but definitely look for it in the sales.Master of Orion 7
