As of late in the indie scene I have seen a resurgence of games trying to get back to our “gaming roots” playing off classics like Castlevania, Metroid, Super Mario and many others. Although some people are very much tired of the art that comes from these efforts, I really feel that many of the games pull off “retro” art very well. Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight, is one such game. This game came to my attention simply because another friend happened to mention it in a skype conversation and I feel very grateful that I heard of it. This game is the fourth in a series, the first two being free and the 3rd being the first that was released for sale. Although this game is the 4th entry, you do not need to have played or even have prior knowledge of the games to enjoy it and its story. It pulls heavily from Metroidvanias, and heavily rewards the player for exploration. So without further ado let’s dive into the meat of this review!
