COLORFUL have launched their new WARHALBERD and CVN Guardian DDR4 modules. Unlike many brands, COLORFUL have been nice enough to disclose their choice of memory IC. The gaming-oriented CVN Guardian sticks use Hynix CJR, a well-known chip from a well-known manufacturer. However, interestingly, the COLORFUL’s WARHALBERD DDR4 uses CXMT.

There are a lot of companies out there that will sell you DDR4 sticks. At time of writing Newegg, for example, lists 33 different brands that will offer you a DDR4-2666 kit. Despite the apparent variety, the vast majority of these use chips from one of three major manufacturers – Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix. There are a couple of more minor manufacturers as well, like Nanya. ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), however, is emerging as a fourth major player. The Chinese government has invested heavily in technology as part of the Made in China 2025 program. CXMT DDR4 is one of the fruits of this investment.

Meet the Modules Using CXMT DDR4 – COLORFUL WARHALBERD

A COLORFUL WARHALBERD DDR4 module with ICs clearly marked as CXMTCOLORFUL’s WARHALBERD series is value DDR4 for basic home PCs. The modules are designed for both Intel and AMD mainstream platforms, and go through compatibility testing in current-generation and previous-generation setups. COLORFUL also put WARHALBERD memory through their 48-hour quality test.

COLORFUL WARHALBERD is available in 8GB single-module packs. Speed options are a basic DDR4-2666 at 18-18-18-43 timings and 1.2V, or DDR4-3000 16-18-18-38 1.35V with XMP 2.0. We’d love to get our hands on these to see what the CXMT DDR4 chips can do.

Meet the Modules Using Hynix CJR DDR4 – COLORFUL CVN Guardian RGB Gaming Memory

Yes, one of those is just "memory" on its own.COLORFUL have also launched CVN Guardian RGB DDR4 gaming memory, the latest addition to the CVN family. These modules are more gamer-oriented, with a good-looking aluminium heatspreader and addressable RGB. All the major motherboard RGB software is supported including ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI options as well as Colorful’s own iGame Center. Like the WARHALBERD, CVN Guardian goes through a 48-hour quality test. COLORFUL also give the CVN Guardian series a limited lifetime warranty.

Speed options start at DDR4-2666 19-19-19-43 1.2V, with an 8GB module costing $49. DDR4-3200 16-18-18-38 1.35V is priced at $69 per 8GB module. Higher capacity comes with 16GB DDR4-3200 16-20-20-40 1.35V modules, costing $99 each. Of course, these are MSRP figures and the memory market can be quite volatile.

Hyinx CJR has been around for a while, but CXMT DDR4 is still a bit of an unknown. Should we try and source a kit for review, and see how these new chips perform? Let us know in the comments below, or on the Play3r facebook page.
