SuperEQ S1 Hybrid ANC Headphones: Video Review

SuperEQ S1 Hybrid ANC Headphones: Roundup

It took me a good while to test these headphones, the stated 40-hour capability with ANC and Bluetooth use has proven itself over a few weeks.

I gave these headphones the commuter test, trying them for an hour or two each day travelling to and from work. The materials feel well thought out and the build quality is very good. Comfort from the headphones was no problem for me at all.

The sound quality is excellent with my only concern is the maximum volume not going as high as I would personally like. I found myself hitting the volume up button on train journeys to be told “maximum volume” though this was only in environments where external noise plays a factor.

The Active Noise Cancelling is good, as it works quite well, taking out many frequencies but not completely blocking out external interference, it does improve focus on the music being played but instead of silence from outside interference, you will only get a reduction in noise, not cancellation.

Despite the lower top volume, audio playback is excellent, with a great noticeable range, bass, midrange and treble all well represented in a balanced way allowing you to tweak audio using your device’s audio controls.

Bluetooth connection is very easy and while pairing I had no issues at all with my iPhone 11 which I used for testing.
Using the headphone jack gives you unlimited use but we are of course not wireless at that point. The sound quality when wired shows off the driver capabilities well.

Finally, battery life is excellent. I’ve been using them for the last 6 weeks on my daily commutes to be day job and I’ve charged them only 3 times. Giving them between 10 days to a fortnight’s use before I charged them again.

What’s Hot!

  • Excellent build and materials
  • Great sound quality and comfort
  • Included carry pouch

What’s Not!

  • Max volume a little low
  • ANC still leaves some external sounds audible

At the time of writing these headphones are available for around £55 on Amazon UK. Which, in my opinion, is too much when you consider other options available.

Bo’s review of the ESKA E5’s is a good example here of what you can get for just £40, so a price reduction here is really needed for the SuperEQ S1’s to become a more competitive consideration.

That being said, the SuperEQ S1’s walk away with Play3r’s Silver Award thanks to the use of decent materials, great sound quality and decent noise cancelling & ambient sound features and brilliant battery life, even when ANC and Bluetooth are being used.
