Closer Look

Getting to the Captain 240 itself and as most will be, I was instantly drawn to the pump and its unique design. Next, I saw the rigid tubing connecting the pump to the radiator and I have to say, I really am not a big fan of this style of tubing, it just leaves a cheap/tacky feeling in my mind.

The radiator is a fairly standard 240mm model. It would have been great if DEEPCOOL had done something to it to help make it stand out a bit. The pump is amazing and the fans look great as well, would have been lovely to even just add some sort of red line/panel of some sort to the side of the radiator itself, would have just brought even more attention to it.

On the radiator, users will find a fill port. However, removing the sticker on this will void the warranty. The captain series of coolers are not meant to need maintenance, so any tampering with this is un-needed. Companies do this to protect themselves and the end-user really, as no maintenance is required, if you remove any of the liquid inside, or, add more, it could affect the performance and actually end up breaking the cooler. So, unless you are a pro and know what you are doing, it’s best to just leave it alone!

Now it is time to take a look at the main attraction, the pump on the Captain series is definitely a head turner, though I will admit, it has the marmite effect, you either love it or hate it. Me personally, I hate red, but I do love the concept of it. The red tubing on the outside that will allow for the liquid inside to pass through it is a nice touch and just adds a bit of something special to the aesthetics of the cooler. One thing I was unaware off until I installed it, is the fact that where the tube connected into the top of the pump, it actually has a pulsating red light, another nice touch as the pump is likely to be on display in a lot of builds.

As mentioned, the Captain 240 comes with a 4-port fan hub to power the fans. Powering the pump itself is done by a 3-pin fan connector that will plug into the users motherboard, most likely in the CPU FAN Header.

The fans match the pump quite nicely with their black frames and red blades. DEEPCOOL did a great job matching the colour schemes and having the Captain series look great, it really is just a shame they did not add something onto the side of the radiators.

Now that we have seen the DEEPCOOL Captain 240 is a visually impressive AIO cooler, it is time to see how easy it is to install it, followed by the tests to see if the performance matches the looks.
