GamerStorm Castle 240RGB Overview: The Verdict

So, the GamerStorm Castle 240 RGB. Let’s address the elephant in the room… Why can’t I control the RGB’s with the 4-pin header on my motherboard? Well, the castle 240 RGB uses addressable 5v digital LED’s and these use the 3-pin 5V-D-G header instead of the traditional 12v-R-G-B header which I happen to have on my motherboards in the video.

However, other (newer) boards from the likes of Asus, MSI, Gigabyte and ASRock can and do have these 5v digital 3-pin headers so keep your eyes peeled for them.

I particularly like the design of the pump/block area. When switched off it has an innovative mirror finish and when in use it clearly displays the GamerStorm logo. The rounded silver edge of the pump/block combo is also done very well and will look excellent in a wide variety of builds.

GamerStorm are promoting the use of an E-shaped microchannel design which can effectively enhance the heat circulation efficiency and enlarge the thermal contact area, which in my opinion is why they decided to promote the block for Threadripper use, though it doesn’t look like it would cover a whole Threadripper CPU completely.

Now, the price at the time of the review brings the GamerStorm Castle 240 RGB to us at around £95 and I think that’s priced very fairly. You get a very aesthetic 240mm AIO with all the bells and whistles that you’ve come to expect from what is a fairly well-known brand, though GamerStorm is, let us remember, a DeepCool company.

Attention to detail has been paid, with the mirror finish and ambient lighting, the addressable 5v RGB LED’s on the block and fans, the option to control them directly from the motherboard and should that not be available the inclusion of the ADD-RGB controller to pick one of the many options and speeds of your fancy.

What’s Hot:

  • An attractive curved silver pump housing with a mirrored finish on top, so even when the machine is turned off it looks great.
  • A big range of LED features and the inclusion of the ADD-RGB controller should your motherboard not support the 3-pin 5v digital LED outputs.

What’s Not:

  • Not being able to personally connect the RGB features to work alongside the RGB on my motherboard. Though this won’t be the case for everyone, I’m just complaining personally.

The GamerStorm Castle 240 RGB walks away with our Design Award.

A big thanks to GamerStorm for sending the Castle 240 RGB for me to have a look at.
