MSI GT72VR 7RE Dominator Pro Notebook Review

Any gaming notebook featuring an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor and a full-fat NVIDIA GTX 1070 is going to pack a mighty punch…and in the case of MSI’s new GT72VR Kaby Lake refresh, it certainly does. Not only does the new GT72VR 7RE have the above components, but the i7/GTX 1070 is complimented with 16GB of DDR4 memory and a 256GB M.2 super fast SSD; not forgetting the 1TB storage drive for all your games and files of course.

The MSI Dragon Centre app is also ever present and can be found on all of MSI’s Gaming range of notebooks and I believe it to be one of the best software applications we saw in 2016 and guess what, nothing has changed here. The SteelSeries RGB keyboard feels nice and overall, the black aluminium chassis looks and feels as good as it gets.

The screen is 17.3″ and features a 120Hz refresh rate for the ultimate portable gaming experience, but in our testing of AAA titles, maximum settings don’t hit the required 120fps plateau needed to make the most of this. Of course games like CS: GO, DOTA2, League of Legends and WoW will have no issues here, but I figured it was a worthy mention.

Is MSI’s GT72VR 7RE Dominator Pro a worthwhile purchase? Well for around £2100 (at the top end of the pricing spectrum), you can pick up this portable pocket rocket and providing you’re going to make full use of the specifications, it’s certainly worth the money spent!

Big thanks to MSI Notebooks for sending the GT72VR 7RE Dominator Pro in for review.
