Introduction & Closer Look (HyperX Fury DDR4-2400 16GB Quad Channel Memory Kit Review)

Price: £100.77 @Ebuyer (At time of review)

It’s official, DDR3 memory’s time has effectively passed as being the go to platform and has humbly passed the torch onto DDR4.  When the first batch of DDR4 memory came onto the scene to provide RAM to Intel’s Haswell-E (LGA 2011v3) platform, it was hella expensive and one could find many pros and cons from taking the jump to the new platform.  Of course the CPU’s themselves offered a tasty jump in performance, but DDR3 to DDR4 not as much as people expected; mainly due to the adopted low speeds on launch.  Slacker timings, roughly the same speeds achieved as the end life of DDR3 helped this, but one thing DDR4 is champion for is memory bandwidth and quad channel DDR4 is the epitome of memory greatness.

HyperX are one such brand to champion the DDR4 transition and have had some very talked about kits upon releasing them such as the Predator; this is one of the most sought after kits for DDR4 overclocking, or it was at the time of its launch!  One of the most popular DDR3 kits was of course the Fury range and it’s no surprise that HyperX have released a similarly designed kit for DDR4, namely the HyperX Fury DDR4 which leaves little to the imagination if you are of course familiar with the DDR3 kit that HyperX released over a year ago!

So what’s so special about the Hyper X Fury DDR4 variant?  Well this particular kit comes with XMP 2.0 rated speeds of 2400MHz with a fairly average CL15 latency.  Want 16GB of DDR4?  Well good, because this kit is also quad channel (4x4GB) and of course makes up 16GB; it also operates in dual channel mode on Intel’s latest Skylake platform, even with all 4 DIMMs populated.  One thing I love about HyperX products is the packaging and they make it rather photogenic to get snaps of!  A simple blister pack just won’t do and as you can see, HyperX have set the modules up exactly how they would look inside your system; upright!

Although the main reason the DDR3 Fury was popular was due to the available colours (white, black, red and blue), the HyperX Fury DDR4 is only currently available in black, but I would hope that they release other coloured variants at a later date as I have seen so many nice white and black mixed kits look fantastic previously.  The heat sinks themselves are fairly low profile and should pose absolutely no problems fitting under even the most protruding of air coolers on the market.

Obviously the HyperX Fury 2400MHz 16GB (4x4GB) quad channel kit is an aesthetically stunning kit of DDR4 memory, but does it perform as good as it looks?  Quick specs and then onto the bread and butter…
