Kingston Fury RENEGADE RGB 6800MT/s DDR5 32GB: Unboxing and Closer Look

Kingston has used black and white contrasting packaging, with clear and concise text throughout, including a large picture of a single stick of the DDR5 DIMM. The back of the box has the usual requirements and information.
Internally, the RAM arrives in a clear plastic clamshell, which can be kept in the box and out of the landfill.

The kit has a prominent silver and black aesthetic, a friendly “FURY” logo, and a chrome effect. A full-length LED light bar runs across the top of the DIMM with a diffuser.

The RGB is set as a rainbow cycle by default and uses Kingston’s Infrared Sync, which takes care of the uniformity of RGB lighting across multiple sticks of RAM.

Kingston Fury RENEGADE RGB 6800MT/s DDR5 32GB: Test Setup

We’ve updated our cooler test bench with a DDR5 motherboard to double as a cooler and DDR5 test bench. With Intel’s DDR5 memory controller being more mature than AMD’s, we’ve settled on an Intel Core i5 13600k and the Z790 Aorus Elite AX motherboard.

CPU Intel Core i5 13600k
Cooling
Motherboard Z790 Aorus Elite AX DDR5
RAM Kingston Fury RENEGADE RGB 6800MT/s 32GB
XMP 3.0/EXPO 36-42-42-105 @1.4v (2x16GB) @ 6800MT/s

PSU Thermaltake TOUGHPOWER ARGB GF3 850w
GPU MSI NVIDIA GeForce RTX3070Ti Ventus 3X
OS
Windows 11 (22H2)

I used the XMP 6800 profile (Intel XMP 3.0 specification) for testing in today’s review.

As you can see from the CPU-Z screenshot, the DRAM frequency is running at 3600MHz, which is correct for the default speed of DDR5-6800. The quoted latencies are 36-42-42-105 @1.4v.

XMP is aiming to be also available!

Kingston Fury RENEGADE RGB 6800MT/s DDR5 32GB: Testing

Overclocking

We’ve updated our overclocking methodology to be more in-depth and consistent for reviews in the future. All the overclocked results you’ll see follow this new methodology: achieving frequency overlock first and then latency timings second.

These profiles are used for today’s testing results:

JEDEC speeds – 4800MHz – 42-39-39-77 timings

EXPO speeds – 6800MHz – 36-42-42-105 timings

OC speeds – 7066MHz – 34-42-42-105 timings

AIDA64

Produced by FinalWire Ltd, AIDA64 is a system information and diagnostic suite with extensive features. Memory enthusiasts are particularly drawn to the synthetic cache and memory benchmark. AIDA64 latency is a common point of comparison for those looking to get the absolute most out of their systems.

AIDA64 scores wouldn’t be complete without the screenshots people love to compare results – here are all three for JEDEC, XMP, and our manual overclock.

y-cruncher

A “high school project that went too far,” y-cruncher is a highly optimized constant calculator. The program, written by Alexander J. Yee, can compute pi and other mathematical constants to trillions of decimal places. Because the Ryzen 9 5950X is so strong, the y-cruncher is extraordinarily memory sensitive on our test system. We’re benchmarking the time to calculate 1 billion digits of pi.

F1 2022 – 1080p DLSS Quality – Ultra High Preset – DX12.

F1 2012 is an incredibly well-optimized DirectX 12 game that runs well even on an Athlon 3000G and has a built-in benchmark. From now on, we’ve changed the result to 1080p to eliminate the GPU as a bottleneck.

Interesting results show that there is not much change between the speed profiles, with a slight bump across the board.

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider – 1080p – DLSS Quality Preset – DX12.

More than just a showcase for NVIDIA’s RTX: Shadow of the Tomb Raider has become popular among memory enthusiasts since it shows off the benefits of overclocked RAM. We ran the built-in benchmark at 1080p resolution using DLSS and the Quality preset with DX12. From now on, we’ve changed the result to 1080p to eliminate the GPU as a bottleneck.

Another tight win for the Overclock, with XMP and JEDEC following up.

Cyberpunk 2077 – 1080p – DLSS Quality: RT Ultra Preset.

Cyberpunk 2077 is well-known as the new “but can it run” game. With stunning visuals and exceptional gameplay, including exceptional Ray Tracing detailing. We turned all details up to 11 to see how the memory speeds affect gameplay at 1080p.

Another tight win for the Overclock, with XMP and JEDEC following up. Is not much in it at all, though!

Kingston Fury RENEGADE RGB 6800MT/s DDR5 32GB: The Verdict

The Fury RENEGADE RGB 6800MT/s kit from Kingston is perfect! Aesthetically it’s a smart-looking silver and black kit with one of the best light diffusers we’ve seen to date. Amazingly, the LEDs are the brightest we’ve ever seen, which is more impressive when the individual LEDs internally are not visible at all; bravo!
Another plus is that it works perfectly with motherboard RGB software from ASUS, MSI, ASRock, & Gigabyte.

Performance-wise, unsurprisingly it’s the fastest kit we’ve seen at 6800MT/s, which is perfect for Intel 12th and 13th Gen CPUs. AMD’s 7000 series will not benefit from anything over 6000MT/s, but the XMP3 at 6000MT/s will boot and work perfectly.
Using the XMP1 profile at 6800MT/s, the performance is the sweet spot for gaming and productivity performance, with timings at 36-42-42-105 @ 1.4V.
When we attempted an overclock, we achieved 7066MHz with 34-42-42-105 timings, reducing the CAS latency from 36 to 34.

What’s hot:

  • Tasteful aesthetic
  • Works with motherboard RGB software
  • Performance is great
  • Price to performance is top-tier

What’s not:

  • Not everyone will be a fan of the silver and grey aesthetic

Overall, the Kingston Fury RENEGADE RGB 6800MT/s gets a big thumbs up from us. It’s aesthetically pleasing, has silver and black styling, has decent XMP 3.0 performance at 6800MT/s, and can run a slower XMP profile for AMD’s 7000 series CPUs.

Finally, this kit is available at Kingston for £241.97, which currently makes this a price-to-performance champ—making it a well-deserved winner of our Gold & Value Award.

Thanks to Kingston for sending the Fury RENEGADE RGB 6800MT/s 32GB DDR5 kit for today’s review.
