It is once again that time to add up all the pros and cons and see if the ASRock Z97 Extreme6 is a worthy purchase, or if we should leave it to sit on a shelf in the back of a warehouse collecting dust. Let’s recap and find out!
Starting with the aesthetics, I found the design of the board quite pleasing and given the opportunity would love to create a build around it. The overall black and blue design is very eye catching, especially when the light hits one of the heatsinks and you can see the sparkle. ASRock have also taken the time to make sure the blue isn’t too overwhelming and they have done a good job as such. I also feel the rest of the board is laid out very well and all the ports/connectors are where they belong making for an easy transition when building up the PC or having to move things about.
Moving on to the features and WOW! One of the major things going for the ASRock Z97 Extreme6 is the Ultra M.2 which allows for transfer speeds up to 32Gbps, truly amazing. The fun does not stop there though, ASRock have also incorporated a normal M.2 slot, Mini PCI Express slot and Sata Express connector trying to give us as many options as possible. Let’s not forget about the great overclocking features it offers with the reset and power buttons, easy bios choice switch, 12 power phase design and the XXL / Premium Aluminium heatsinks and chokes to help keep everything cool while pushing your overclock to the max. If that is not enough it also supports Crossfire and SLI configurations, future Broadwell CPUs and has a host of software available.
Taking a look at the performance and the good times keep on rolling. This board allowed me to reach my highest overclock so far with my personal 4770k and if you look at the benchmarks, it surely does not disappoint there. More times than not the ASRock Z97 Extreme6 can be found somewhere atop our benchmark results. Power consumption is one of the areas this board really shines, being the least power hungry board we at Play3r have ever tested. This board definitely holds it’s own when it comes to performance.
Taking a look at the price which is just shy of £140 and I have to say I feel that is a fair price. The ASRock Z97 Extreme 6 offers features I have yet to see from any competitors. You get what you pay for and this is definitely the case here, you may pay a bit more for this board than some others but you definitely get your money’s worth. Remembering the synthetic benchmark, OC results and all the features it has you can not go wrong with the ASRock Z97 Extreme6.

Summary
The ASRock Z97 Extreme6 offers a host of features with performance to match in an aesthetically pleasing package. If you are looking for a solid Z97 motherboard you may have just found what you were looking for. You will be hard pressed to find another board that offers all of these features at this price.
Thank you for all the excellent reviews. Just one thing: It would be excellent if you could use the correct abbreviation for gigabits per second, i.e. Gbps, as opposed to GBs. GB is the abbreviation for gigabyte, and I’m pretty sure even Ultra M.2 can’t do 32 gigabytes per second! 😉
