[section_title title=”Overclocking”]Overclocking

The Gigabyte Z97X-GAMING 5 may be aimed at the mid-range market  but it still offers a nice overclocking experience. While I may not have reached the best overall overclock there are also a lot of other things to consider. This review was the first time I had used the 4770K in mention and could in fact have played a big part in the overall maximum overclock that was achieved.

Bearing that in mind the actual experience of overclocking was quite enjoyable. I was able to hit an overclock of 4.5GHz with ease. As mentioned this was my first time overclocking this exact CPU so I started off with 1.3v as this is what we use to test our CPU coolers. This was achieved by disabling the normal CPU features, up the multiplier to 45, setting the CPU voltage to 1.3v, VRIN voltage to 1.9 and switching the VRIN Load Line Calibration to Extreme.

This was in fact the highest Core Speed I was able to achieve. At the 1.3v I could not manage to get the CPU to 4.6GHz no matter what I tried. Once I realised this was as high as I was going to be able to go I set off to try and lower my voltage on the CPU a bit. I managed to get the voltage down to 1.27 and held stable running Prime95 for just over an hour.

With these settings and my trusty H100 on its performance setting my temperatures were topping out around 78c
