[section_title title=Lighting]Lighting

The QFRi’s most prominent feature is the LED lighting and the various effects. The standard effect is full key backlighting as seen below:

The QFRi has 5 various lighting modes, from off to maximum brightness – which certainly lights up the room on a dark night! The next profile on is a breathing mode, which gradually dims the LEDs and then brings them back to life again.

Another mode is reactive and what I call a prolonged reaction mode. For the former, the key will only light up when pressed, and the latter will have a delayed fade out effect when pressed – my personal favourite. The next mode illuminates the WASD and cursor cluster.

On top of all these modes is a programmable mode, which lets you record up to four different profiles. To do this, you press the Record button, followed by the profile number you want. You then press the keys you want to have illuminated and then finish by pressing the profile key again. Below is an example of a profile I created for MMO gaming:

During testing CM Storm actually released a firmware update, which added a new lighting effect. I’m not entirely sure what it is called, or even what to call it, but when you press a key, all the other keys on that row in both the X and Y plate light up – a new effect for me!
