[section_title title=”Conclusion”]Conclusion

CM Storm have been releasing an increasing amount new iterations of their already popular keyboards. Sometimes these tweaked editions are based on the same hardware, but the annoying design flaws are addressed and the overall appearance is made more appealing – like with the new TK Stealth edition we reviewed not too long ago. With the Trigger Z it is clearly a case of listening to users’ feedback and improving an already decent product. The appearance has been made more slick and the white LEDs look great against the blackness of the rest of the keyboard. It’s interesting that CM Storm have changed the USB connector from a mini USB to full size as it now protrudes from the keyboard quite significantly, so whilst it may make for a more durable connection (i.e. won’t break from pulling the cable out as easily), it is odd that they would not see this design flaw.

Overall the Trigger Z mechanical keyboard is a welcome improvement over it’s predecessor, with a much better look and feel to it. Be prepared to give up a lot of desk space to it as the inclusion of a wrist rest and additional macro keys has given it a much larger footprint – even in comparison to a normal full size keyboard. Of course all the mechanical switch goodness is included with the Trigger Z and having it in different flavours means that you can have the switch type that suits you best – although you’re not stuck for choice if you prefer a different LED colour as that is strictly switch dependant.

The Trigger Z really shone when I had played around with the configuration and gotten used to the additional macro keys. Using the Trigger Z has been incredibly enjoyable for both gaming and all the reviews I’ve been writing recently so it’s great to see that CM Storm are listening to their customers to tweak their slightly off putting designs to create much more appealing product. At €110 it might be steep for some, but you are for once, getting a lot of keyboard for your money. With a bit of time spent customising the software, you are left with a great performing and a sleek looking keyboard that feels top-notch to use, so for these reasons I am awarding the Trigger Z with our prestigious:

  • Performance
  • Design
  • Value
4.7

Summary

Sleek, feature packed and very comfortable to use.
