[section_title title=”Design & Performance”]Design & Performance

When it came to the performance of the CM Storm Xornet, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I’ve had other mice around the £15 price range that were just garbage, cheap and didn’t perform well at all. While the design of the Xornet is something I was not accustomed to using, after a few minutes it worked out well for me. The ergonomic claw grip design is one that will take some time to get used to but for me it had it’s advantages.  As it was a bit uncomfortable for me I felt more like my response time was maybe a bit quicker.

Taking a look at the actual performance and I tested out the Xornet for browsing the web and on a couple of different games. In terms of everyday performance it held up well, all the buttons click nicely and don’t leave you feeling like the mouse is going to fall apart after a short period of time. The buttons by the thumb that allow you to navigate forward and backwards through webpages are always helpful and the scroll wheel is nice and responsive. The one thing that let me down, which I can not hold against the mouse is the time it takes to move the cursor from one side of the screen to the other. The Xornet features a 2000 DPI whereas I am used to using a CM Storm Recon which has a DPI of 4200 so is much faster. Again, this is nothing against the mouse as it performs as it should, just the 2000 DPI is just significantly slower than what I am personally used to.

Taking a look at video game performance and as always I broke it in with a bit of Quake Live. The reason I choose this game first is simple, it is the fastest pace game that I play and the mouse is always on the go. From bunny hoping to rocket jumping the action doesn’t stop and is a good way to test out a mouse’s sensor. The 2000 DPI Storm Tactical Optical Sensor held up very well once I found the right sensitivity to use with it. After I was used to the ergonomic claw grip the mouse offers I was back to my normal self. The left/right buttons are as responsive as you like and the buttons near the thumb are in just the right spot to bind a couple of nice weapons to for the heat of battle.

I also tried the mouse with Battlefield 4 and CS:GO and was not let down at all. Being able to change the DPI on the fly as they say is an amazing feature which while becoming more common can mean life or death in the heat of battle! The CM Storm Xornet performed as well as I could have asked for, especially considering the price.
