[section_title title=”Conclusion”]Conclusion

The Logitech G502 Protues Core is an impressive mouse then, that appears to compete directly with the G602 more than anything else. The mouse itself is great from hardware through software, performance and Logitech’s ever reliable build quality and after sales support should you need to use it.

For £70 you’re getting an out and out gaming mouse that pulls no punches and should be ideal for anyone with a strong interest in FPS games but not limited to them. I certainly had no issues playing a ton of League with the mouse and even powered through some in-game promotion matches using it. The addition of weights and tuning software make the G502 feel like a proper customisable mouse outside of something as exotic as a R.A.T.9 and without feeling like a half attempt. The merits of the software may not be immediately quantifiable or obvious, but the tracking software certainly does “feel” better.

If there are any niggles with the G502 it is the default placement of the DPI switching buttons. Logitech have done well to ensure the end-user doesn’t have to suffer through DPI buttons atop the mouse itself, but the seamless transition between LMB and the DPI buttons means they lack the tactile feedback and execution more shaped buttons would offer up. The ‘G’ light is also horrific if left on, but thankfully there is an option tucked away in the control panel should you (most likely) want to turn it off.

To tie things up by coming back to my opening line, the G502 feels like the opposite of the G602 but not in a bad way. The G502 is wired and has less hardware but makes up for this through an accessible software solution and functional hardware. If I were asked to pick between the two I’d personally opt for the G602 due to the wireless capability and remarkable battery life, but that isn’t to say the G502 is bad; it’s more a choice of whether you want Logitech’s wireless or wired offering.

I’m awarding the Logitech G502 Proteus Core our performance award due to its outstanding execution throughout our gaming tasks.

Summary

The marriage of both the G-Shift and laser calibration should have everyone’s gaming needs and surfaces covered making the G502 an ideal LAN mouse to boot. £70 isn’t a lot for a high-end mouse and the G502 should definitely be considered if you are in the market for one!
