Conclusion

Now we will collaborate our time using the Decus gaming mouse by SpeedLink with testing to supply you with a reliable and honest conclusion of our experiences.

To start with, the Decus is a device you won’t see in your average computer store with the heading “GAMING” hung ahead and surrounded by Razer and Steelseries products. It is more commonly found on review websites, like this, and on offer with sites like Amazon for cheap prices. With this said  SpeedLink really need to expand their marketing because overall, this mouse is a fantastic addition to any gamers arsenal. We were skeptical at first but after putting the Decus through lengthy testing it stayed strong to the end.

It may not be the best looker for those of you with a blue and white case, wanting a matching mouse to fit the theme, but if practicality is over looks for you then look no further. You have found your budget gaming mouse. Aesthetically, the Decus is mostly of a two stage plastic construction with a matte finish to most areas to provide grip and break the colour scheme up a little bit. The light positioning is great, allowing for a clear indication that the device is operational and looks cool sat on the end of your desk, drawing attention to itself while to blinks away. The only niggling issue was actually the material used, for £35 we didn’t expect any brushed steel components but would have been nice to have the red sections of this mouse made of said material. We were convinced it was made of this but upon opening the box, was a little disheartened to see it was just molded plastic. This aside, it looks amazing and feels amazing!

The performance was something all gamers want, from flexibility to keeping up with the mix of games available on the market. With a good DPI range, 5 profiles and mass of settings to change the mouse to suit your needs, SpeedLink have covered all the main areas. But does it perform well when under pressure? It certainly does! Very well in fact, so well that I completely forgot I was using this £35 beast and felt like I was using the £100 device I had sat a few foot away from me. Once in the game, my hand fell like melted butter into the mouse and it kept pulling through with every swipe across my mouse mat. Keeping me on point as I worked my way through each game and system I tested it on. Overall, I was very happy with the performance of this device.

Comfort, like previously mentioned, was a cause for concern after opening the box and finding a full plastic construction. This was soon swept under the carpet once I had the Decus in my hand and under intensive use. No awkward grasp at the device to reseat it between rounds on FPS games, so loss of grip at times where it was needed most and no annoying positioning of my fingers to get the best ‘click-position’. very well done on the development of this mouse, SpeedLink!

Overall, the SpeedLink Decus took me by surprise as a budget gaming mouse that wasn’t from a reputable company trying to sell off a lower specification device to unknowing and newbie gamers. It offers a great experience overall for gamers looking for a device they can plug right in, dial to perfection, then hit a mass of games and expand their capabilities. OK, so it doesn’t offer 1,000,000 buttons for MMO games but the Decus isn’t designed for this. It is designed to be slick, affordable and perform with the user to bring a great experience. I am happy to say, it does this and much more. It is probably the first mouse I can say that if it broke, I would go out and buy the exact same product and get back to gaming.

As a final point, I would like to thank SpeedLink for bringing this device to our attention and themselves too. We are very happy with this product and couldn’t recommend it enough to any newbie gamers out there. With all the above said and hardly any areas for improvement I would like to award this device our value award for providing great performance, aesthetics and comfort for a good price.
