Packaging & Closer Look

The Tesoro Excalibur V2 Illuminated Mechanical Gaming Keyboard – to give it its full title – is presented is a rather fetching purple and black schemed box with the image of the keyboard and some fairly subdued blue lighting, you also get a somewhat manga picture of a sword hilt. A little more interested is the information crammed into the bottom right corner highlighting the Kailh keys as well as some of the other selling points that you can expect.

On the back of the box, we see some of those features identified again and the Kailh switches are explained in detail. there’s also a 3:4 scale image of the keyboard itself.

There’s not a lot going on when we first open the box aside from the stylish all-black interior… only folded cardboard keeps the keyboard safe from the slippery hands (and feet) of the low paid and underappreciated shelf stacker.

Apart from the keyboard and its standard cable with not-gold-plated USB plug, there’re only two pamphlets. One is a bit of advertising in the style of ‘Look at what you could have bought’ and the other is the Quick Start Guide. There is certainly the impression of costs being cut across the board in order to keep this as low priced as possible while still being feature-rich.

There’s not a lot going on at the back of the keyboard apart from the usual risers – again, quite a low grade stuff here – and something nice to see is the rather wide rubber feet at each corner. The Excalibur is not going to shift too much during those frantic moments as you hammer at the keys.

The meat and potatoes of this keyboard are of course the combination of Kailh mechanical keys and the per-key LED lighting. Here’s what you get under the keycap. We progress to the lighting section of the review next…
