[section_title title=”Conclusion”]Conclusion

Well I’ve had a streak of rather good mice in for testing recently, and unfortunately the Gandiva is a combo breaker; let me recap why.

When it comes to design I have to say again that this is honestly one of the ugliest mice I’ve ever seen, it is pitched by Tesoro as being ‘flashy and aggressive’ and the description does fit but those aren’t especially good criteria for designing a mouse if you ask me. One thing that I found particularly bothersome about the mouse was that the colour changing facility for the LED lighting only actually affects the scroll wheel and the Tesoro logo, with the rest of the mouse staying blue which is a design choice I simply cannot understand.

The performance of the mouse isn’t all bad, the tracking is pretty good and most of the buttons are nice and responsive but it has the incurable issue of having a high lift off distance which on a claw grip mouse which is very likely to be lifted is pretty unforgivable. I have to say in this particular configuration the performance doesn’t even match the mice packing Phillips twin eye sensors that I’ve had my hands on, but other mice using the 9800 are noticeably better.

In terms of value I’m struggling to make any kind of a case for the Gandiva. The pricing is still to be confirmed in the UK but if it comes in at the top end of its £39-45 predicted price range it will be in a sticky situation indeed. This is because it will cost about as much as the still ‘flashy’ but better looking (and performing) Gamdias Hades and if it comes in at the lower £40 region is has to compete with the OZONE Neon which is also a superior product in everything but switches.

Ultimately, though I of course can’t speak to everyone’s tastes, for me the Gandiva is one to be missed on looks alone. That’s not to say it wont appeal to some though and taking into consideration the reasonable performance and pretty solid build quality I’d say it just about earns itself a Bronze award.

I’d like to say a massive thank you to Tesoro for sending this mouse in for review, I look forward to seeing more from them in the future.
