Conclusion

Well, I’ve had a play with the Lexar Professional range of products and there is no denying it definitely comes in handy and can increase productivity. With more and more devices starting to use some sort of SD card to expand their memory, is Lexar’s HR1 hub and accessories worth your hard earned money? Let’s find out!

Performance

Looking back at the benchmarks I ran and I can’t help but feel that the performance from the Lexar Professional series of products is top-notch! Using the USB3 interface, I saw read speeds of 300+MB/s in some benchmarks with the write speeding topping out around 240MB/s when using the DD512 storage drive in the HR1 hub. When it came to using the UR1 and SR2 card readers, there were equally impressive as they managed to make the most of transfer speeds from the SD cards I tested in them. I chose to leave these benchmarks out as the speeds will be directly related to the SD card you are using more times than not. Also, being able to back up multiple SD cards to the storage drives on the hub is a great feature to have.

If you are not a fan of the hub, or only want to take one of the bay modules with you at a time, worry not! The individual bay models all come with their own USB3.0 cable and can all be used individually or with the hub!

Design

As the name would suggest, the design has somewhat of a professional feel to it, while remaining simplistic. The exterior is mostly a piano type finish black. The HR1 hub is not overly big and when you have readers and drives in all the bays, it does look rather nice all together. As mentioned, if you are not interested in the whole hub unit, each individual reader/storage drive can be used on its own which is a great design feature to have as you may not always want to bring it all with you on your travels!

Using the USB3.0 interface also seems to be another one of those good design choices! All the speeds from the hub and the readers/drives are what you would expect. All-around, Lexar have done an exceptional job with the design that not only allows the products to be easy on the eyes, it also allows them to have top-notch performance which is just as important.

Value

I feel the prices for the Lexar Professional series are quite good. The DD512 which is a 512GB storage drives comes in around £112 which is a fair price for the storage size. The HR1 hub itself comes in just north of £40 which also makes it a great deal considering what it can do! The memory card readers come in around £22 and £34 which is not bad at all when you consider they can be used with or without them hub and do utilize USB3.0 speeds so the only real thing slowing them down with be the actual memory cards you are using them with.

Final Words

When all is said and done, the Lexar Professional series will definitely help increase your productivity, especially if you take a lot of photos or videos using SD based memory cards. Being able to also attach either a 256GB or 512GB storage drive to the hub for backing up all your files makes it just that much more worthy to be a part of your everyday routine! Backup is essential for storage and the Lexar Professional series definitely has you back when it comes to backing up!

Gold Award – I am giving the Lexar Professional series of products our Gold Award as a whole for the simple reason it will easily help you increase your productivity and also will allow you to backup and manage all your media with ease!
