Closer Look

The Plextor M6e PCIe SSD is quite the looker and should go very well with most “Gaming” themed builds thanks to it’s red and black colour scheme. The M6e BK comes with the PCI mounting bracket pre-installed so it is ready to be slotted in and used immediately. The bigger red area on what will be the bottom of the card once installed is going to act like a heatsink to help make sure the internal M.2 SSD does not overheat from making use of its blistering fast speeds.

On what I would consider to be the backside, but will ultimately be the topside once installed, we notice a nice black PCB with a few stickers and some information on it.  The white sticker has all of the technical information one will need in the event an RMA is required. The green sticker is going to be the warranty void if removed sticker, it is covering a screw and essentially stops users from taking the M6e BK apart, or, at least voids the warranty if they do.

The M6e BK is powered by the actual PCIe lanes (slot you plug it into) but also offers a backup of a single SATA power connector if your motherboard has problems powering it. This could make things a bit awkward when it comes to installing it as, generally speaking, the PCI slots and HDD cages are not always right next to each other.

As mentioned, the M6e BK is a PCIe card with an onboard M.2 SSD. This design will allow for more users to make use of the PCIe and M.2 SSD speeds without the need for an actual M.2 slot. Just make sure you have enough free PCIe lanes from your CPU to power this up, which most should unless they have multi-GPU setups.

If you want to make use of your cases HDD LED, there is a two prong plug on the backside of the M6e BK to do so.
