Conclusion

The Defcon 3 Red gaming PC from Vibox has certainly made for an interesting review in my opinion, especially when you consider the specifications and technology under the hood, but what does the Defcon 3 have under its bonnet to make you purchase this delightful budget gaming rig?  Is it a value for money king, or is there anything we would change?  Let’s crack on…

I think the main focus here is what comes with the Defcon 3 system and what it’s lacking.  It has a wide variety of top quality parts inside for the budget gamer such as the MSI GTX 750 Gaming 2G graphics card and the powerful, yet modest Intel Core i5 6500 processor which for the record, is a 4 core (quad) CPU; certainly enough power in the system for gaming at 1080p for the foreseeable future in everything but crazy VRAM hogging games.

What I do feel the system is lacking overall is balance, it doesn’t make sense to put 2800MHz DDR4 memory in with a CPU which cannot currently be overclocked or the GTX 950; I would rather save a few pennies by having 16GB of 2400MHz dual channel DDR4 than 8GB of 2800MHz.  Of course, this is just my 2 pence, but in the interest of value I wouldn’t have a budget board, budget graphics card, budget CPU with high-performance memory, it just doesn’t make much sense from a value perspective.

Aside from that, this system does pack a pretty decent punch for the price and gives good features such as Intel Quick Sync for those wishing to maximise their streaming performance and of course all those lovely NVIDIA features such as Shadowplay, or DSR; not that the GTX 950 will suit anything over 1080p, but it’s worth a mention.  The other nice thing I like about this system is the design and general aesthetic, everything just looks in place and with the lights out and the system powered on, it looks blooming fantastic in my personal opinion.

Overall the Vibox Defcon 3 Red gaming PC has done enough to satisfy me in terms of price to performance, but I feel the balance is slightly lacking in key areas such as the memory, but on reflection, this doesn’t hurt anything and I am more than happy to award the Defcon 3 our silver awards; great job Vibox!
