The movement in this game is the same as in damn near every RPG out there, where you must use the WASD to move around. The first thing I really noticed movement wise though is the fact that you can now jump with Geralt, which wasn’t available before, but it means you aren’t having to run ALLLLLLLL the way around the fence to get past it thank Christ! Available to you now is a horse which Geralt lovingly calls Roache, which if you don’t get, going back to The Witcher 2 would be handy, and worthwhile. The horse can walk slowly, saunter at a nice pace or can do a full out sprint which has a bar that runs down fairly slowly compared to the slowdown that goes along with the horses in Skyrim.

This game does have infuriating boss battles like the last game. From ones that are on your level like ones that are part of storyline, or ones that you encounter randomly that can be the biggest frustration sometimes, because their level just won’t show up half the time so you don’t really know what the hell you’re going up against. The map has been greatly improved on so you will know where the hell you’re in fact going half the time and won’t be getting lost quite so easily.

Beginning this game is pretty perfect for newcomers because you’re trained right from the get go how to play the game. The game doesn’t pick up straight away like The Witcher 2 did, probably because of the giant difference between worlds, but it does pick up and it is very much worth playing through. You will also have a choice through the game in love interests, between the lovely Yennifer or the equally lovely Triss!

Like the last game the signs are important, so here they are again for you all:

  • Aard: A telekinetic thrust to get enemies away from you (basically a Hadoken).
  • Igni: A burst of fire!
  • Yrden: A magic trap for enemies.
  • Quen: A witcher shield, good for one hit (an important sign!).
  • Axii: Makes an enemy fight WITH you.
