The AOC G2 series represented by the C27G2ZE/BK

AOC have released a flush of new gaming monitors, all with 1080p panels and a 240Hz refresh rate. The additions to the AOC G2 series range from 23.8 all the way to 31.5 inches in size. All benefit from sRGB coverage above 100% and AMD Freesync Premium, with high contrast VA panels on the larger displays.

As context for this announcement, AOC are pointing to the continued growth of esports. According the the Newzoo trends report they cite, significant growth in both revenue and audience is expected in 2020. High refresh rate panels are ideal for esports, as they shave vital milliseconds off your response time. This really can help you hit a moving target when you’re clicking heads.

Like the AGON AG273QZ, AOC quote a very fast “MPRT” response time of 0.5ms on most of these new screens, and 1ms on the 31.5″ model. MPRT, or Moving Picture Response Time, represents how long an unchanged pixel is visible for and according to Blur Busters is actually more important than the typically quoted GtG or “Grey-to-Grey” response time. MPRT is normally equal to the time between frames which for 240Hz would still be 4.17ms. AOC must be doing something fancy to make sure pixels disappear faster, such as backlight strobing. If this is all it claims to be this isn’t just an extremely high refresh rate, but it should also have less blur than even competing 240Hz displays.

In addition these new members of the G2 series all offer very slim bezels, and AOC suggest they’d be ideal for a multi-monitor gaming setup. Weirdly, the photos include a VGA connector that isn’t mentioned in the specs.

The AOC G2 series have a VGA connector too, as seen here with the connectors on the 31.5" C32G2ZE

AOC’s 240Hz 1080p Additions to The G2 Series

Meet The 24G2ZE/BK

The AOC 24G2ZE/BK is a 23.8″ (generally rounded to 24″) 240Hz gaming monitor with AMD Freesync Premium support. A TN panel provides 105% sRGB coverage with reasonable 170/160 degree viewing angles. Inputs are HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2, with line in and headphone out for audio.

Meet The 24G2ZU/BK

The AOC 24G2ZU/BK is another 23.8″ model in many ways just like its sibling above. What distinguishes the -U model from the -E is a selection of “nice-to-have” features. Firstly, there’s a more adjustable stand with height and swivel as well as tilt. Secondly, the headphone out is joined by a pair of 2W speakers. Finally, a 4-port USB 3.2 gen1 (5Gbps) hub provides connectivity options.

Meet The C27G2ZE/BK

The AOC C27G2ZE/BK is a curved 27″ 240Hz gaming monitor with AMD Freesync Premium support. A VA panel provides 120% sRGB coverage and a claimed 3000:1 contrast ratio, with 178/178 degree viewing angles. Like the basic 23.8″ model above, inputs are HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2 with headphone out for audio.

Meet The C27G2ZU/BK

The AOC C27G2ZU/BK is the upgraded version of the C27G2ZE/BK. As above there’s a more adjustable stand with height and swivel as well as tilt. The 2x2W speakers and 4-port USB 3.2 gen1 (5Gbps) hub also show up again.

Meet The C32G2ZE/BK

The AOC C32G2ZE/BK is the biggest announcement today, at a full 31.5 inches with an unspecified curve. Despite the large size AOC are sticking with 1080p, so this screen may be better suited to those who prefer sitting further away. The large size also means the MPRT spec loosens from 0.5ms to 1ms, though the monitor keeps a 240Hz refresh rate and AMD Freesync Premium support.
