If I was to name some power supply manufacturers or OEMs off to you, would you recognise them? What about Seasonic? Of course, who hasn’t heard of those? What about your less obscure ones such as FSP or Flextronics? Well if you haven’t heard of them, you should have as some of the most popular brands of power supplies such as Corsair, Cooler Master and Antec use them on a regular basis, but there is another name which you should take heed of. Yes, I am talking about Superflower. You could see that coming a mile right? Superflower haven’t only been an obscure name to the mainstream but having been founded in 1991 and hailing from Taiwan, this particular company has only been making “headway” over the past couple of years with their own branded power supplies; we aren’t talking OEM anymore, but Superflower has been an OEM to other brands for decades.

With an ever growing range of products and ranges such as the Leadex, Arctic and even the Golden King, today I will be taking a look at something slightly difference and focusing on a completely different market. I of course will be taking a look at the Golden Silent 500w fanless power supply which as the name suggests, is passively cooled and features no fans whatsoever; just a giant heat sink designed to use existing air flow to keep the unit cool while under load. This is of course in addition to the 80 PLUS Platinum rating which should surely make this a big hit with those demanding efficiency, as well as completely silent operation.

So let’s take a look at it, talk more about the specifications, what’s featured and, of course, get down to running a couple of tests! Is this the future of power supplies and can Superflower literally carry on its trend of wiping the floor with the competition? Let’s find out…
