We’ve seen the rise of so many smart phone manufacturers using bigger and more powerful chips in their production process. I think this all really took off when we saw the release of the octa processors, dating all the way back to the days of the Samsung S4 which used a exynos 5 Octa 5410c. However Qualcomm have announced the release of one insane processor, boasting ten cores. Now consider that many cores in such a small device, it really is something that is amazing news for the mobile industry.
According to most news sources (listed at the end of the review) the 10-core chip is using multiple processors that vary in power. The chip is designed in this fashion to power save when all ten cores aren’t used, for instance switching off the Mid and High power cores when you are just browsing the internet or checking email. But the most interesting thing about the Snapdragon 818 is the sheer rise of processing power in mobile devices in such a small amount of time. I regularly review products that run Cortex A7 processors which simply decimate most simple tasks, and I can’t imagine how fast ten cores would be to use in such a small product.
