Closer Look: Interior
Just like the exterior, the Fractal Define R5 features a gorgeous black finish but with white accents in fans and PCI brackets; a Krait motherboard would look gorgeous in here, am I right? There are a few interesting things to note about the internals, first we have removable HDD caddies, both cages are removable. This allows longer GPU cards to be installed. Along with room for nice water cooling gear to be installed. There are 2 x 2.5″ mounts on the rear of the case to keep you covered should you wish to do something like this.
The Fractal Design Define R5 also features rubber grommets just like the older models, nothing new to mention but a mention I shall give regardless.
Need lots of storage space? Well the R5 has space for a maximum of 10 storage devices which includes 8 x 3.5” bays and 2 x 2.5” bays; of course when 3.5” drives are installed, you do have less space because, well isn’t it obvious? These, however, can be removed if you wanted to create even more interior space and painted white to add contrast which I really like.
Included with this particular chassis are 2 x 140mm fans, the front and rear, to provide maximum airflow throughout the case.
In the roof there is space to fit either 3 x 120mm or 140mm fans depending on your preference; a 240mm or 280mm radiator would be perfect up there if water cooling is your cup of tea.
My only gripe so far is the two small rubber grommets at the top of the case. When trying to install the 8-pin CPU lead, it wouldn’t fit through the hole, leaving me no choice but to run it up the back of the motherboard tray through the CPU cutout area, something I was disappointed about. You can see plenty of room (1-2cms) below where they finish to make it a bit larger.
