Opening up with the packaging, the ASUS GTX 980 STRIX OC 4GB graphics card comes in a primarily black box with the ASUS owl making an appearance across the right hand side; STRIX originates from the Latin word for owl and some design aspects have been modelled to reflect this. The front of the box contains information such as branding, model, cooler technology used within the card and of course all the usual stuff such as the amount of VRAM included; in this case, 4GB GDDR5.
On the rear, ASUS have included a huge plethora of information which includes more about the DirectCUII cooler technology which features a fully semi-passive design. This also includes information regarding ASUS’s own GPU TWEAK overclocking utility and of course mentions a 3 year warranty; pretty standard with ASUS graphics cards.
Inside of the box aside from the ASUS STRIX branded GTX 980, we have a couple of accessories with some of them very interesting indeed. Aside from the driver installation disc which contains the GPU TWEAK overclocking utility, we have an installation manual, one 2 x 6pin PCI-E to 1 x 8pin PCI-E power cable, we have some stickers which allows customisation of the STRIX card depending on your personal preference; a really nice touch in my opinion.
Now let’s take a look at the main focal point of the review, the GTX 980 STRIX OC itself…
