Conclusion
I hope you haven’t skipped ahead to this point just to find out what I thought of the Braun Series 9 9040s Premium Shaver Wet & Dry. If you read the review so far then you already know that I am totally taken back by it.
It’s a shaver, it takes hair off your face, and it does it with the type of precision and grace that is normally reserved for a high-end wet razor but without the hassle of cutting yourself or trying to clear beard trimmings from between multiple scalpel-sharp blades, and it does so regardless of whether you prefer a wet or dry electric shave.
The battery just goes on and on. It defies logic for something that takes an hour to charge to last for so long even with a long break between uses. I went on holiday for a week and forgot to pack the Series 9, but I didn’t have to worry at all about charging the shaver when I got back before I was able to use the trimmer and then shave the moment I walked through the door. In fact it’s still going strong three weeks since it was last charged if you include the pause for my week away and a few days off here and there.
The build quality is exceptional, it feels great, it’s waterproof (useful for a wet and dry shaver), it’s the closest shave I’ve had from any electric shaver and easily a rival to any wet razor I’ve used in the past.
If that’s still too much for you to read, take a look at my portrait in the introduction before I started using the Braun 9040s and then the current state of play. I have been converted. I have gone from not shaving at all for the past few years, only using trimmers to remove the excess hair occasionally and leaving the stubble look, to become someone who not only goes through the ritual of a morning shave but is actually enjoying this new start to my day. I still keep some beard though, but then I mentioned that I’m not a catalogue model and my hairless face is not something easily enjoyed by myself or others.
So, should you get one yourself? Well, if it goes on sale and you can bag it for under £100 then I can think of no reason for you not to buy one. At £180 as it is currently available, it’s a serious investment but one that really is worth considering – and since Series 9 is the top of the Braun range, marketed at the professional who wants convenience, precision and a really fast shave, it’s not too much to pay.
It should be noted that we don’t give out awards for lifestyle products. This time though I am so totally blown away by the 9040s that we are making this review a special case. You will see that the shaver gets 5 stars across all categories of performance, design, build quality and even price because while it’s expensive for some, the target audience should find it agreeable. So without further waffle, the Braun Series 9 9040s Premium Shaver Wet & Dry gets the Gold Award, the only negative point I could find during my whole review is that some people will be priced out of being able to get one.
Kudos Braun, the Series 9 9040s is utterly marvellous, thank you for allowing me to try it out for the past few weeks.
