Whilst beauty is only skin-deep, MSI were particularly proud of the effort they’ve put in behind the scenes where their keyboard is concerned. For this year’s gaming notebooks, MSI have struck a deal with SteelSeries to incorporate SteelSeries’ software – SteelSeries Engine (SSE) – into all of their gaming laptops with the aim – and successful demonstration – of bringing an all-in-one gaming keyboard to their laptop line. Of course, the SSE will link up with any SteelSeries hardware you may already have or wish to use with any of MSI’s upcoming products.
You can have up to 4 layers of macro enabled keys and NKRO of up to 10 keys on the mostly-used left side of the keyboard. We found this partnership and inclusion by MSI to be a real-boon to their line and it’s easy to see why they were keen to show it off, most gaming laptops are simply high-end machines – but MSI are going that extra mile to make their 2014 line-up that little bit better.
Not resting on their laurels, MSI are seeking to further emphasis their out-of-the-box experience by including an easy to access broadcasting solution – again exclusive to MSI – for any and all streamers. The agreement is with Xsplit software-wise and offers a 6 month trial to all owners of the 2014 range. The solution is what MSI see as a massive boon to those who may be put off by the extensive configuration of OBS and similar to get their stream up and running, offering console like capability at the press of a button.
The Xsplit package does all the necessary behind the scenes configuration for you, so that you can get streaming as soon as possible. The software itself also makes use of the Intel QuickSync technology on the CPU to ensure your GPU resources are free for gaming.
Taking both the SteelSeries and Xsplit integration together, it’s hard to argue against MSI’s confidence in their laptops line for this year. Both offer an accessibility relative to the gaming market not really seen before without taking any power away from the end user. MSI have rolled the power off a gaming desktop and simplicity of a console into their gaming notebooks in a seemingly meaningful and successful way.
