Powercolor has announced a three-month warranty extension for units that would otherwise run out during the COVID-19 pandemic. If your Powercolor warranty ends between March through June it now has three more months. Powercolor is following in the footsteps of MSI’s recent announcement of a two-month warranty extension for qualifying customers in COVID-19 stricken areas.
The coronavirus outbreak has many people stuck in lockdown, meaning an untimely GPU failure could be very inconvenient to remedy. The mantra here in the UK is “Stay at home. Protect the NHS. Save lives.” That doesn’t leave a lot of room for “RMA graphics card”. With the extension, users have one less worry.
Powercolor haven’t attached any conditions to the announcement, so presumably it applies to their entire range. Powercolor is best known for their AMD graphics cards, but they also make an external GPU enclosure and the Devil HDX sound card.
The decision to apply extensions through to June is bold. It seems Powercolor agree with the assessment that led to Computex being delayed. The implication is some people might still not be able to process an RMA several months from now. Still, in a situation like this, it’s better to be on the safe side. Powercolor is looking after their customers here. Hopefully, the worst will pass soon, but a full return to normal may take longer.
Powercolor has also advised users that their US support will be less responsive than usual. For now, the California-based office is closed in compliance with the statewide “Safer at Home” order. Powercolor is asking users needing tech support to contact them by email at this time.
