In a recent press release, network storage giants Synology reveal their latest Network-Attached Storage (NAS) unit but what is so special you may ask? Well, it is simple. It is powerful and much more affordable. The DS416j, the latest in the j series of NAS units, is certainly a head turner with a high spec under its belt but for an exceptionally low price.
Featuring a Armada 388 Dual Core 1.3GHz CPU, a 4-bay set up and 512 MB DDR3 memory, you will expect to see 112.82 MB/s read and over 101.2 MB/s write. Sporting a slick yet not too OTT style, clear light configured display and plenty of options available for RAID, Synology have not cut any corners. The back reveals a DC IN for power, USB 2.0 and 3.0 port, reset switch and what we can only presume, a gigabit network port. Also, exhaust fans offer airflow away from the 4 toasty warm Hard Drives within.
Backed with Synology’s 2-year limited warranty, they went on to state; “With adjustable LED indicators function, DS416j can allow users to control the front LEDs based on its four-stage brightness setting and a customized schedule can be set on demand. The target customer of DS416j is focus on home and personal users who seeks for massive storage capacity and building their own personal cloud or serves as a multimedia server.”
Overall, we are excited to see such a high specification device for a low price as of this and has certainly made us read the spec list a fair few times! But, would it make you delve into the NAS based section of networking or make you swap out your current storage device? Let us know!
