Thermalright’s Classic in a new revision: High cooling performance paired with meaningful detail improvements at an unbeatable price-performance ratio
Undoubtedly, the True Spirit and the Macho have been part of the Who’s who powerful tower cooler for years. Thermalright has reworked its two classics in a compact 120 mm design. What has remained is the still unbeatable price-performance ratio with the usual high-quality workmanship.
The equipment of the MACHO 120 REV. B at a glance:
The total of 5 copper heatpipes with 6 mm diameter are nickel plated. Add to this the black anodized top fin of the 30 perforated cooling fins, which give the Macho 120 Rev. B the final touch. The black anodization of the top fin ensures that the cooler in cabinets with side windows is even better.
Furthermore, the perforated layout of the cooling fins in combination with the central air channel in oval form provides an unobstructed air flow and optimum heat dissipation. Incidentally, in terms of compatibility, the “small” and revamped macho can also be easily used on mainboards with memory modules that have a high-build heatspreader.
Thermalright does not do anything in half when it comes to choosing the enclosed fan: the new temperature-controlled TY-121 fan achieves a maximum air throughput of up to 131.3 m³ / h despite a low and almost noiseless speed of 600 to 1,800 rpm. He clearly outclasses the fan of the A-revision with 78.5 m³ / h – at the same volume, he achieves a cooling capacity of a maximum of 200 watts. Particularly convenient: The fan assembly is easily possible with the enclosed brackets, even if the cooler is already installed in the system.
The scope of supply includes the new TY-121G, which is controlled automatically via the PWM signal via the mainboard and steplessly from 600 to 1,800 rpm (+/- 15%). The result is also with this high-quality silent fan: a low volume of a maximum of 25 dBa with a maximum cooling capacity of 160 watts. Just like the Macho 120 REV. B comes the new True Spirit with practical fan-holders, which allow a subsequent fan assembly.
Another plus: Thermalright called the new macho not in vain as a multiplatform cooler. In addition to all Intel platforms from the LGA 775 up to the LGA 2066, the B revision fits all AMD sockets from AM2 upwards. Even owners of a Ryzen CPU can grasp the macho without hesitation thanks to the AM4 support.
The features of the Thermalright True Spirit 120 M BW Rev. B at a glance:
The Macho’s little brother, the True Spirit 120 M BW Rev. B, is extremely powerful despite its small size. Here, too, the four 6 mm heat pipes are nickel-plated and the top fin of the 46 cooling fins black anodized. As with the A revision, the redesigned True Spirit offers the best compromise of best-in-class performance and compact size, ideal for use in Micro ATX or Mini ITX systems and narrow tower enclosures.
Furthermore, the new True Spirit, like its big brother, is optimized for maximum compatibility and multi-platform capability. Even memory modules with high heat spreaders are no obstacle to installation.

A wide range of accessories and mounting materials are provided by Thermalright’s two coolers, along with a self-adhesive anti-vibration pad, to decouple the fan from both models. In addition, the Macho 120 Rev. B comes with an oversized screwdriver with magnetic tip for convenient mounting on the motherboard.
