Conclusion

It’s not often I get to check out a pair of headphones from a company that has recently entered the market, so there were some trepidations when they first arrived. I think my fears were quickly dashed when I had done some more research in Otone, who produce some decent audio products, which provided me with some faith that nothing should be any different for the One-Eighties.

I think it’s fair to say that Extreme have themselves taken part in an extreme sport, as the risks of entering the already saturated audio market certainly has its pitfalls, with very few companies rising up and making a name for themselves. True, this may not have been the case if they hadn’t partnered up with Otone, but the proof is in the pudding with the One-Eighties, which deliver a fantastic sound for every genre played through them and provide a lovely deep bass – perfect for those movies.

The One-Eighties were not perfect however; the battery life was not great, especially considering the two AAA batteries it takes, but no doubt this is down to the ANC mode and increase bass delivered by the “Vortex Drive”. That said, even if the batteries were flat, you can continue to listen to your music – something you cannot do on my BOSE headphones. The inline controls were not fantastic either. They relied on you remembering how many rapid presses you had to make to skip the track – perhaps in any revisions of the headphones, this could be improved.

Overall I am delighted by the Extreme One-Eighties; they look and sound great and at around £150, even cost less then my BOSE QuietComforts, which provide a similar level of sound quality, but do not work if the battery is flat. Whilst a few improvements could be made on the battery life and the inline controls, these are only little niggles, so if you are in a market for decent noise cancellation, great sound quality and deep, undistorted bass, then I would definitely consider the Extreme One-Eighties:
