[section_title title=”Conclusion”] Conclusion
To start this conclusion it would be fair to say that Klipsch have hit it out of the park somewhat with the KG-200 when it comes to gaming headsets. At £120, the KG-200 certainly aren’t cheap but then again, the KG-200 appear to cover the alternative of ‘get a good pair of dedicated headphones’ and separate microphone – the convenience being Klipsch will sell you both in a rather good package.
The design of the headphones is really quite nice. Obviously looks are down the individual, but Klipsch have avoided producing a gaudy headset as well as not falling into the trap of the KG-200 looking decidedly dull. Even the styling of the detachable microphone seems unique compared to most on the market with its large tip. I think it’s a bit of a shame that given the aesthetics of the KG-200, they can’t be run without USB power. If you could run the KG-200 off a standard audio jack these would be even more value as sterling pair of headphones you can take out and about with you.
Of course, the reason you would want to take the KG-200 out and about with you where possible is because of the aural treat served up. The audio quality over USB was certainly supreme, and i’d argue without specific sound preferences, as good as the Grado SR80i I use normally – a respectable entry level pair of headphones. It’s just a shame I couldn’t use the dedicated audio connectors some more to see how the sound was different as used with a good soundcard, I imagine the KG-200 may be even more impressive.
If there is anything I disliked about the KG-200, and I’m nitpicking here, is the shape of the earcups. I think part of the reason the KG-200 sound so good is in part to the cup as well as anything else. The cups themselves are quite angular and snug but not as abrasive as other headsets but after extended periods the padding becomes noticeable and feels like you need to readjust the headset for maximum comfort.
So, I feel it’s fair to Klipsch that their first attempt at a gaming headset is somewhat a resound success. The KG-200 is just short of top marks in every category I tested, personally. £120 is a lot to ask for any headset in my opinion but thankfully Klipsch have delivered on the audio part better than I expected.
Summary
Minor audio niggles during specific testing scenarios shouldn’t put you off this superb offering from Klipsch. If only you could take it with you it would be a five-star product.
