Closer Look

Starting off with the packaging quickly, the NB05 comes in a blister pack which is quite nice as it will allow users to get a better look at the NB05 inside before purchasing. Across the top of the front is the SilverStone logo and towards the bottom is a features list, QR code and the URL to the SilverStone website.

On to the back and we have a specifications list at the top followed by what appears to be the features list from the front in various languages alongside individual QR codes.

Getting the NB05 out of the packaging and it has a very simple yet effective design. The cross flow fan should create a nice airflow that will help to keep the whole bottom of the users notebook cool, instead of just one small designate area as a lot of other coolers do. Inside the packaging aside from the NB05 is only a lonely USB cable so users can connect the NB05 to their notebook to power up the fan.

On the right hand side of the NB05 is a 3-port USB 3.0 hub, USB power input and a DC power input. Please note the DC adapter is not included when purchasing the Nb05 but may be required to make use of the USB 3.0 hub.

The left side of the NB05 is plain and does not offer any special features and/or connectors of any type.

Flipping the Nb05 over and getting a look from the bottom we can see the vented area that will allow for the cross flow fan to generate the airflow that will help keep the notebook in use cooler. There are 4 rubber feet in the corners to help make sure that neither the NB05, or your laptop slide around the desk when in use.

Using the NB05 is as easy as setting your laptop atop it and plugging it in via the included cable. As mentioned it doesn’t take up much room at all and not only will it help keep your laptop cool, it will offer a more ergonomic angle for typing and viewing.

Final Thoughts

The SilverStone Noble Breeze NB05 is a great take on a product I feel is a must! People don’t realize how hot the bottom of a laptop can get and are always using them on top of beds and sofas, which is never a good idea. Laptops and notebooks should always be used on a hard surface, this makes sure the fans and ventilation on the underneath don’t get blocked which on the rare occasion, can cause a fire.

The NB05 offers a unique design in the fact that it has a cross flow fan that will effectively create a breeze across most of the bottom of a laptop or notebook. A lot of laptop coolers use 1 or 2 fans placed on the bottom of them and are directed only at a small area. The NB05 cross flow fan spans from one side of the cooler to the other and being in the back means it will offer the best chance of cooling the entire bottom of your preferred laptop or notebook and for this reason I will be awarding it with our Design award!

I would like to thank SilverStone for sending the Noble Breeze NB05 in for review and look forward to seeing more from them in the future.

  1. Hi, and thanks for the review. I have a question though:

What happens with laptops which evacuates hot air by the backside (under the laptop screen)? Does this fan works even on this laptops?

    Thanks in advance.
