Like the majority of consumer HDDs these days, they usually come sent in a sealed anti-static bag with plenty of padding in a box to ensure the drive isn’t damaged when it is received. The bag protects the HDD from ESD (electrical static discharge) which is very harmful to PC components.
Taking a closer look at the WD Black 2TB drive, like all the latest Western Digital drives they have a colour code system depending on their intended use and in this case, it is black which signifies that it is their performance range of hard drives. On the sticker itself there is information such as the serial number, the model number, size, branding and the specifications of the drive itself.
On the side of the drive, we have the regular position screw holes to fit into HDD cages. It is worth noting this particular drive is 3.5” thick and is for use in desktop systems (not laptops). The main body of the drive is silver and it features a very nice contrasting black; the WD black is a very stylish drive as far as a mechanical drive is concerned.
The WD 2TB Black comes with a SATAIII (6GB/s) interface for maximum performance and is powered via a powered SATA cable. The drive itself is relatively heavy and robust meaning that it feels like a very highly quality drive.
The reverse side of the Western Digital 2TB Black drive features a very unsavoury green PCB which is common on hard drives but given the price point, it would have been nice to be black so it is somewhat hidden. Although HDDs usually go out of sight in people’s builds/systems, some users are very vanity conscious when it comes to components so it would have been nice to see an implementation of something other than an unpopular green PCB.
