You start as the unluckiest robot in the universe, BUD. This time he’s crash landed on planet with more than a single island. In fact the spaceship MOM, had broken up into parts scattered across the world. You’re tasked with collecting them and rebuilding the ship. It’s as generic as goals go, but does provide much needed context to why you haven’t shutdown and waited for a rescue ship.
Walking is still clunky, BUD aims in vaguely the direction you point, flailing limbs around to aid his locomotion. This is where the new upgrades come in, instead of just walking, you can roll or fly. This is tied to another collecting loop. Scouring the world for ability upgrades to further your abilities and make reaching floating islands so much easier. With each upgrade traversing the world becomes faster and more exciting.
Starplants have been tweaked to work better. Each bud you grow into a branch sprouts other buds you can branch, seemingly forever. This means you will never fall short of an energy rock again as you can double back and grab another bud to go further. You want to make a single starplant orbit the planet, go for it. There are also more types to grow, which vary depending on the biome where you find them.
The surprisingly useful addition of plant collection, helps with moving around platforms and exploring. If something is out of reach you can spawn a jumping mushroom, etc and hopefully reach it.
