Mercusys have launched their Halo S12 mesh wi-fi system. Arriving as a pack of two or three routers, the routers link together using mesh topology networking. This means each router talks to all the other routers in range and it’s these links between the routers that form the “mesh”. It can also be visualised as a net, with each knot in the net being a router or access point, allowing you to extend the network coverage much further than with a single wifi point. This is because data hops across this mesh to find the router with access to the target device on your home (local) network or a connection to the internet.
Compared to wi-fi repeaters, Mercusys’s mesh provides a seamless experience. Taking advantage of the widely supported 802.11k and 802.11v standards, your device can automatically switch to the nearest router without interrupting your connection even for a moment. Mercusys also have all the usual features you’d expect such as parental control, a guest network and fast wireless-ac and speeds of up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz or 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz wireless band.
