Samsung announced that their line of F9000 TVs which feature ultra high definition 4K technology are now ready for pre-order in the United States from July 21st.

The models which are being offered by Samsung include both a 55” and 65”. With those display sizes it’s quite apparent that they are not targeted for average consumers, and the price tags of $5,500 and $7,500 certainly reinforces that point.

While it’s nice to the release of these ultra high definition panels the real challenge will be making them available to a wider audience at a competitive price bracket. However I can’t see this happening for at least a year or two.

Another big hurdle will be the content for 4K, Sony have tackled this hurdle with their announcement of their own media player and content delivery platform, unfortunately there is no word on if Sony’s delivery platform will be compatible with other manufacturers offerings.
