Closer Look
Here it is, our first look of the HIS R9 270X. If you think it looks strikingly familiar to any other HIS card, you wouldn’t be wrong. The cooler is nearly identical to that used on other models but there are a few subtle changes such as its fin density and the size of the fans that are utilised. There are also five 6mm heatpipes rather than three 6mm heatpipes and two 8mm heatpipes. Other than that, it is more or less the same cooler. It makes sense that the fin density is cut down and that the heatpipes are what they are as this GPU kicks out a lot less heat than its bigger brother, the 280 and 280X.
The back is pretty much like you’d expect any GPU to look. The square bracket in the centre holds the cooler on and the screws around the edges hold on the heat spreader which also gives the card sturdiness and makes it more rigid so that it is less prone to bending towards the back from the weight of the cooler.
In order to power the HIS R9 270X, you will need two PCIE 6pn power connectors. HIS state that a minimum of 500 watts is required which is reasonable. I will be finding out how much this card draws later on in the review. You will need to ensure that you do have a quality branded PSU such as an Enermax or a Corsair unit for example.
The back of the card is the same as the 280X which I previously reviewed and it has a single DVI port, a HDMI port and two mini DisplayPorts.
