[section_title title=”Overclocking”]Overclocking
When it came to overclocking my 5820K on the MSI X99S SLI PLUS there was a bit of a learning curve as this was my first time using a X99 board and the 5820K. Everything still went fairly well I do believe that the MSI BIOS was easy enough to navigate through to get done what I needed to.
As this was my first time using all this hardware I set out for a mild overclock, upping the CPU to 4.0 GHz, I then went through and upped the voltage a bit and changed all the normal options one would when overclocking. I was in luck, 4.0GHz on a 5820K was hit with almost no effort at all and as it was so easy, this is where I decided to run the performance benchmarks when it came time to do them on an overclocked CPU.
After 4 GHz I set out upping the multiplier by one each time and upping the voltage a tad as needed. I finally ran into a wall at 4.4GHz where it would not boot properly. Turning the multiplier back down I was able to get the 5820K stable at 4.3GHz with 1.252v which I was happy with. Temperatures were also not an issue thanks to the help of the Thermaltake Water 3.0 Ultimate which keeps the CPU unbelievably cool but that is a whole separate review on its own.
