So yet another ambidextrous mouse review comes to a close, what are my thoughts on the neon?
Starting with the design I quite like the neon, the classic intellimouse style body with the white stripe around the body is a nice compromise between style and stealth, though I would prefer not to have the OZONE motif present. The mouse wheel on the white edition also has a pretty cool look in the dark when it gets illuminated by the light in the DPI switch.
In terms of layout there isn’t too much to say really, its an ambidextrous mouse with thumb buttons either side and a mouse wheel in the middle with a DPI switch behind it; simple but effective.
When it comes to performance I’d say the neon is a nice enough bit of kit, it performed well in CS:GO and the tracking felt pretty smooth. As I said in the performance section I think the mouse needs some more slippery feet and a bit of a diet to really come to life but it still does the job well. The switches were a let down though, noticeably the worst I have used in this price range.
Does the Neon represent good value? At £40 I would say its just about right, a capable mouse for that price and whilst it doesn’t match the FK1 it is also at a suitably lower price point where you could consider this a slightly cheaper alternative in my opinion.
So, whilst it struggles to escape the shadow of the Zowie the Neon is still a good mouse in it’s own right, and priced just far enough away where I could recommend it as a cheaper alternative to those after a high performance ambidextrous mouse. Thanks to its overall good performance and fairly good value the OZONE neon just about scrapes in with a Gold award.
Once again a big thanks to the nice people at Overclockers UK for supplying the Neon for testing, if you feel like picking one up you can get it HERE.
