What’s New
So has anything changed with the camera itself? No, the camera still looks the same and has the same contents. It is all about the new app, with new features that make the HomeMonitor Indoor HDS camera even more appealing.
The camera contents also remains the same. Ycam pack it full of bits – different power plugs, 3m cable even a wall mount – something you often have to pay extra for.
So what is the point of this revisit? Well, as I mentioned in the intro, Ycam have totally redone the app. The previous one was slow, buggy and wasn’t that user friendly.
The landing screen displays all of your currently connected cameras, with an option to play or turn off the camera. When loaded, the cameras display a snapshot of the feed. The app itself has more of a material feel to it, with a swipe right menu.
From here you can navigate into settings, recordings and current cameras.
What I like about the new app is that it now lets you do on the fly recording in addition to just taking a quick snapshot. It now also lists the most recent recordings underneath it.
The app now lets you configure the majority of the camera’s settings from the app. Previously you had to log in online, which was a pain and didn’t always work. A new feature is location recording – something we saw in the Canary review. This means that the auto recording feature is disabled when you are connected to the same network as the camera – useful for those interior cameras (like this one), which would constantly be on and recording yourself moving about the house.
The archive has now disappeared and is called “My Videos”. This lists all of your recordings from all of your cameras for the duration of your recording plan. In this case it shows the last 7 days. The main issue I have with this is that the outdoor HomeMonitor camera I use is always recording the slightest movement often caused by the wind or a bug flying in front of it.
