[section_title title=”Performance”]Â Performance
The GT70 2QE is definitely a gaming notebook and it shows, in performance benchmarks where the GPU has taken the reigns is where it really shines, though as mentioned it is a great all around workhorse. Looking at our benchmarks, the GT70 2QE and its 970M have number one spot for laptops and notebooks in gaming benchmarks such as Hitman and Tomb Raider. Once getting used to not having a full-sized mechanical keyboard the Gt70 2QE was actually quite the enjoyable experience when it comes to gaming and I enjoyed quite a few different games from CS:GO to BF4 and everything ran smooth. The only real thing to mention is the noise of the fans and to be totally honest it is to be expected, this notebook is thin and has top of the line hardware in it so has to have an amazing cooling system powered by some top-notch fans and that it does. While the noise can be a bit off-putting at times, it is nothing a nice pair of headphones can not cure.
One of the other big points to mention on a MSI Notebook is the inclusion of a SteelSeries keyboard and while it may not be a mechanical one, it is surely one of the best you will find on a notebook. While it will most certainly take a bit of time to get used to if you are accustomed to using a desktop keyboard, once the learning curve is passed the layout and responsiveness are great for gaming and won’t leave you feeling as if you are at a disadvantage when using it. If the feel and responsiveness of the keyboard are not quite enough to seal the deal on it for you, then you may find the included SteelSeries Engine application will help persuade you. The SteelSeries Engine app will allow users to set up macros, change the backlighting and allow for further customization to each individual users preference which will surely help to aid in allowing for better performance.
