Performance
Straight away we began putting it through its paces, we were able to get on YouTube and Microsoft Office without any problems, although there was slight lag once we loaded up a graphic heavy Word document. Same after a few minutes watching HD clips on Youtube, but again you can’t expect perfection out of such a small device.
Now this isn’t a machine that really should be gamed on, although we loaded it up with Dosbox and Monkey Island, The Police Quest series which ran okay. I even had a little go of Minecraft on it although this did start getting laggy as we flew around the world. As a general rule of thumb, if you go back about 6 years and think of the kind of games that were available then, you’ll probably be able to play them on this assuming that they were not graphically intensive in the first place. Although if you have gaming in mind, you are best off looking at a conventional PC/Laptop.
We ran Plex and were able to watch movies from the HTPC with not too bad results. There were occasional lag spikes but this is an Intel Atom CPU remember, not a 4770k. Another thing you could do is connect it to a projector or separate monitor if you wanted to be able to work on it whilst on your main PC (providing your monitor supports HDMI input, it’ll be fine.)
